SAW Daihyō Shihan Toshiyuki Ito

Toshiyuki Ito 8th Dan “Daihyō Shihan (代表師範)” the Grand Master of Submission Arts Wrestling was born in Tokyo Japan in 1968.

He grew up in the rough streets of Tokyo Japan, and soon learnt how to protect himself from danger.

He learnt his lessons at the “School of Hard Knocks”. It was a very rough school where fights broke out all the time. One on one fights, Multiple fights, and sometimes weapons were involved.

Toshiyuki was training in Judo at that time, but he realised he needed to learn more skills for any kind of attacks.

In 1984, he heard that there was a dojo that practices very practical techniques, and the instructor is a super strong grappler who can evade the strikings and can finish a fight with grappling techniques.

So he joined it and became a student of this instructor.

And that instructor was the one who became Toshiyuki’s life time martial art instructor Shihan Hidetaka Aso.

And as a teen started his fighting career.

He participated in many different styles of fighting competitions.

To take on a new challenge, he moved to Australia, where he didn’t even speak the language, and opened a dojo In 1993.

In 2024, he was appointed as the new SAW “Daihyō Shihan”(Grand Master) and his dojo became the SAW world headquarters.
