SAW History

1983

Shihan Hidetaka Aso started teaching his knowledge to young people. 

Based on Shihan Aso’s past experience, he and his several student were practicing and experimenting in order to compile various grappling martial arts techniques and make them effective in actual combat. Dodging strikings and winning with grappling techniques, etc.

1984

The current “Daihyo Shihan 代表師範” Toshiyuki Ito heard there is a dojo that practices very practical techniques, so he became a student of Shihan Aso.

1986

Shihan Aso named his club “Submission Arts”, and started his own martial art system with only several student with renting a small Judo dojo

1987

Shihan Aso decided to change the name to “Submission Arts Wrestling”(S.A.W.) and established it as a kind of competitive wrestling with the spirit of Budo.

1989

Started “All Japan SAW Championship”

1993

The current “Daihyo Shihan 代表師範” Toshiyuki Ito went to Australia alone and established the SAW Australian branch.

2005

Started “International SAW championship”

2024

SAW Australian branch chief Toshiyuki Ito was appointed as the new “Daihyo Shihan 代表師範”, and the SAW headquarters moved to Brisbane, Australia.
